Citizens Fire Academy

Overall Goal
The Citizens Fire Academy would give community members an opportunity to see firsthand what Campbellsville Fire-Rescue and Campbellsville Taylor County EMS does every day and better understand the training, equipment, staffing, and resources required to provide those services.

October 12 – Introduction / History of Fire & EMS – 2 Hours
  • -Welcome and introduction
  • -History of Campbellsville Fire-Rescue and CTCEMS
  • -Evolution of fire and EMS services
  • -Current department structure and responsibilities
  • -Overview of our call volume and response area
  • -Tour of the station and equipment
October 15 – PPE & SCBA – 2 Hours
  • -Personal Protective Equipment
  • -Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • -Firefighter safety
  • -What firefighters experience inside a structure fire
  • -Hands-on opportunity to see and handle equipment
October 19 – Fireground Operations – 2 Hours
  • -Hose lines and water flow
  • -Fireground water supply
  • -Search and rescue
  • -Ladders
  • -Apparatus and equipment demonstrations
  • -Discussion of the challenges of responding in both the city and county
October 22 – EMS / Saving a Life – 2 Hours
  • -EMS operations
  • -Stop the Bleed
  • -CPR
  • -AED demonstration
  • -What happens during a medical emergency from the 911 call through patient care
October 26 – Hands-On Final Night & Graduation – 2 Hours
  • -Fire extinguisher live-fire training
  • -Vehicle extrication demonstration
  • -Technical rescue overview
  • -Live fire/burn demonstration
  • -Final discussion and questions
  • -Graduation/certificate presentation
